THE historic church clock which recently returned to its place above Coney Street after an extensive restoration has been rededicated by the Archdeacon of York.

The Ven Richard Seed performed the ceremony yesterday morning to welcome the iconic clock and its Little Admiral back to its home on St Martin-Le-Grand Church, following a ten month restoration costing more than £54,000.

Archdeacon Seed said: “Churches hold so much of our heritage and history, and caring for and enhancing it is a task which congregations take on willingly.”

He thanked the various organisations and charitable trusts for helping to raise the money needed and said the city would be “poorer without” the clock.

He said: “Future generations of residents and tourists will be pleased that so much care was taken to ensure the best possible job was done.”
