Witness appeal after scooter crash kills 81-year-old man

POLICE have today appealed for witnesses after a crash between a mobility scooter and a car in North Yorkshire which killed an 81-year-old man.

The collision happened at the junction of Sussex Street and Firby Road in Bedale at about 6.15pm yesterday, as the scooter was heading towards Masham Road.

The crash also involved a Ford Ka travelling from Bedale towards Masham, with the scooter's rider, who is from the local area, being pronounced dead at the scene. He has not yet been named.

The Ka's driver was not injured in the collision, which led to the stretch of road being closed for about four hours. Anybody who saw the crash should phone North Yorkshire Police on 101, press option two and ask for Chris Dundan, or e-mail Chris.dundan@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
