THE first customers have visited the new £9 million York Sport Village swimming pool at the University of York , which opened its doors to the public yesterday.

One of the first into the pool was Anne Crowley, from Stamford Bridge, who was introduced to the facilities by Coun Sonja Crisp and Jon Greenwood, the university’s director of commercial services.

Coun Crisp said: “We know that an active lifestyle brings a wide range of long-term benefits and I hope that people of all ages will enjoy this facility which will help support both our city’s sporting ambitions and health agenda for years to come.”

The competition-standard eight lane 25-metre pool is situated close to the Grimston Bar park & ride, on the edge of the university’s Heslington East campus expansion.

for a lot of york residents it may as well be in outer mongolia and it just seems to be a massive ego trip for people such as ms crisp.

After the demise of the Barbican and Cornlands Road pools, a state of the art facility is to be welcomed. Access is good using public transport or your own vehicle. Only time will tell how well used it becomes, but the popularity of private health clubs shows there is a market for clean modern facilities.

There has been no "demise" of the Cornlands Road swimming pool. It is called "Energise" and is proving to be very popular with users.

I'm surprised that "Red Sonja" dare appear in public given the revelations yesterday about her failure to make the required legal declarations about the gifts and hospitality that she has been receiving.

...and didn't she actually oppose this new swimming pool when she was an Opposition spokesperson a few years ago?

Still why let history get in the way of a free G & T!

Worth putting up with the pictures of her if the truth about her dodgy dealings is coming out. She is a particularly nasty piece of work.

A recent tweet from cllr Crisp suggests she's using God now
Shame since she's beyond redemtion. But just shows the lengths she'll go to to remain in denial. Time to take responsibility for yourself Crispy!

"God Loved ‏@G.od_Loved
A positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances instead of your circumstances having power over you.

If people are going to go there by bus, use the 44! it's the only corridor in York where you can really boycott Firstgroup!
