Man found with serious head injuries in York
POLICE are investigating after a man was found with serious head injuries and a fractured eye socket in York city centre.
The 37-year-old man was found near Lendal Bridge, close to The Maltings pub, at about 12.45am yesterday, by a patrolling police officer.
The man was taken to York Hospital , where he received treatment for serious injuries to the back of his head, and a broken eye socket. He remains in hospital, and is said to be in a stable condition.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said the victim, who is from York, was conscious, and although his injuries were serious, they were not believed to be life-threatening.
The area was cordoned off for several hours yesterday, while police forensic teams investigated the area.
The man was believed to have walked along Museum Street and over Lendal Bridge before sustaining his injuries. Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 101.
Detective Sergeant Stuart Barnett, of York CID, said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the man being assaulted or can help to establish how the man suffered the head injuries.”
