York Sport Village set for opening
9:19am Thursday 30th August 2012 in News
A NEW £9 million sports centre in York will open its doors tomorrow.
The York Sport Village at the University of York ’s Heslington East campus, has created about 30 new jobs and has an eight-lane, 25-metre swimming pool.
Funded through £5 million from the University, £3 million from City of York Council and £1 million from Sport England, the centre also has a learner pool, a 120-station fitness suite and dance, spin and aerobics studios. Among the other facilities in the Sport Village’s first phase will be a full-size 3G astroturf pitch and three five-a-side surfaces.
Elizabeth Heaps, the university’s pro vice-chancellor for estates and strategic projects, said: “York Sport Village represents a major enhancement of sport and recreational provision in the city. It is highly appropriate this wonderful facility was handed over by the contractors on the first day of the London Olympics and it welcomes its first customers as the Paralympics are in full swing.”
Coun Sonja Crisp , the council’s cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, said the pool would be “a state-of-the-art facility for residents”.

I believe the article in question referred to using "inappropriate language" in a discussion with Red Sonja
inappropriate indeed though the quote from red sonja is
Coun Crisp, a Holgate councillor, did not confirm what Coun Ayre said to her, but said: “Robust political debate is part of the job, but it was not appropriate for me and my husband to be publicly verbally abused by Coun Ayre on what was supposed to be a special day.
Drunkenly urinating in the car park is pretty inappropriate too
So Nigel had got drunk and abused her as per my original comment. And as for being Big James lolz

Edmund Wilson pool and the Barbican were left to go to rack and ruin because the council didn't want to spend the running costs.
At the build of the University pool, the council insist that it be open for public use. That's exactly what the Barbican was until the council pulled the plug. (Pun intended).

I know not what happened I believe the whole Wembley shin dig was a Lib Lab affair. I can only go on what was officially reported. I wouldn't trust a word of what Red Sonja says. It seems if anyone is guilty of verbal abuse its more likely to be her.
I think its fair to say as he's copped for it he probably did have a bit too much to drink and have a pop at her but its a step up from soberly doing it in a public forum that can be copied and quoted everywhere. And at someone who clearly doesn't deserve it.
It seems whenever you go after either of the Holgate bullies they look to smear and defame

How come this pool is state-of -the -art when the pool size cannot be used for competitive swimming? 50 metres is the required size. What hope has York of producing any competitive swimmers if they have to travel to Leeds or elsewhere to train in a proper pool? Cost again methinks or simply does York want anybody to be champions in any sport

25m pools are competition standard... National short course for which there are world championships!!!
50m pools are also white elephants. Have you ever actually seen a public swimming session in a 50m pool? I seriously doubt it as its a joke... complete waste of money to heat it and put chlorine in. This pool will have a capacity well over the numbers who will use it. Do you really want a pool which would only cost the tax payers more money?
These forums mainly appear to be a place for those who have nothing else to do but moan (not all, i've seen some good comments too).
So why don't we see the good in this. We have the newest lesiure complex (not just a pool) in the country and its fab. So instead of moaning, why don't you jump on a bus, cycle or drive over and actually give it a try?
