Drug addict raided York home

A DRUG addict who burgled his friend’s home in York has avoided an immediate prison sentence.

David John Horner, 41, appeared before York Crown Court on Tuesday, charged with stealing a games console, games and a £300 laptop from a property in Brownlow Street earlier this year.

The court heard Horner, of Wellclose Place, Leeds, visited his friend at work prior to the incident to confirm he was not at home. Nicholas De la Poer, for Horner, said his client was “a man who has been out of trouble for a long time now”.

The court heard Horner “clearly had a problem with amphetamines”, and had sought help for his drug problem.

Horner was given a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, a 12-month community supervision order, and ordered to carry out a 19-day thinking skills course, and a 24-session specified activity to tackle his drug problem.
