PUPILS at a York private school are celebrating GCSE success.
Almost a third of pupils at St Peter’s School, York, have achieved straight A*/A passes in the 2012 GCSE results.
Four pupils were awarded ten A* grades – Jennifer Frazer, Emily Gray, Natalie Mounsey and Alex Reeds. Sian Biggar, Patrick Copley, Nina Duncan, Zoe Pindar and Toby Simpson achieved nine A*and one A
grade.
A total of 34 pupils achieved a mixture of A* and A grades – 30 per cent of the year group.
As with last week’s A-levels, pupils at St Peter’s have seen an increase in the number of passes at A* - 35 per cent of GCSEs were passed at the top grade, up from 33 per cent in 2011. The overall GCSE pass rate at St Peter’s for grades A* - B was 89 per cent.
Head teacher Leo Winkley, said: “Top grades at GCSE level do not come easily: those who ran the exam marathon this year did so into a Government-imposed headwind. This makes it all the more
pleasing that their careful preparation has come off.
"I’m delighted that our pupils can look forward to the challenges of sixth form study with such a solid GCSE platform in place. Employers and universities alike are rightly scrutinising GCSEs for
evidence of consistent performance. They have done themselves and their parents and teachers proud.”
