A COMPETITION has been launched to design an emblem for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s 40th anniversary next year.

Children up to the age of 16 are being invited to take part in the competition, and the winner will be announced in October.

The chosen logo will feature on items ranging from retail products, marketing campaigns and on all 400,000 2013 timetables.

All previous emblems have all been created by professionals, or adapted from previous mainline railway artwork.

Entries must include a reference to either NYMR or North Yorkshire Moors Railway and the number 40. The competition will be judged by a panel including Chris Ware, the railway’s artist in residence, and other staff, and will be overseen by the railway’s designer.

Danielle Ramsey, marketing manager, said: “The winning logo will be the official emblem used in the lead-up to, and during, the 40th anniversary for all activities associated with the celebrations.”

Entries must be submitted on a sheet of A4 paper, which can be downloaded from the NYMR website, and posted to 40th Anniversary Logo Competition, North Yorkshire Moors Railway Marketing, Pickering, YO18 7AJ. Alternatively, they can be emailed to marketing@nymr.co.uk

Closing date is September 30.
