A MAN who injured a teenage boy and terrified his friends by driving a van through their riverside camp has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Landscape gardner Benjamin David Allerton, 25, was told that his actions were “abberant ” to his otherwise positive and hard working character.
Allerton, of Millgate in Selby pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and attempted GBH, when he drove around the camp in a rage in March, after being told by the group of friends to leave.
Following the sentencing at York Crown Court, detective sergeant Mandy Grundy said: “What began as a fun, camping adventure for the teenagers, turned into a terrifying nightmare during which they were in fear for their lives.
Allerton used his vehicle as a weapon to cause serious injuries, and it goes without saying that the consequences could have been much worse.”
As well as the four year sentence, Allerton received an 18 month driving ban.
