FREEMSONS have given a £5,000 boost to a £300,000 appeal to carry out improvements to York Hospital ’s stroke unit.

The donation was presented by the Lord Mayor, Coun Keith Hyman , to the York Teaching Hospital Charity in support of the Star Appeal for the unit.

Four York Lodges were represented and the chairman of the Provincial Grand Charity of Yorkshire North and East Ridings was also there.

The Star (Stroke Treatment And Rehabilitation) appeal, was launched last November, with the aim of helping to fund a huge overhaul and modernisation of the unit to boost patients’ recovery.

The first phase will be the installation of a track-hoist system to make it easier for them to get in and out of bed.

Meanwhile, the Freemasons’ Minster lodge and the Provincial Grand charity have also presented £1,280 to the orthopaedic ward for the purchase of equipment.

I can't see Dr Coyle and Nurse Carole Croser!

I am eternally grateful to the team for returning me to 101% fitness.

So is the Lord Mayor a Freemason?
I think we should be told ....

I would hope that any person of influence within the city council is not a freemason - basically a semi-secret society in place primarily for the benefit of its' own members, and subject to obeying (under voluntary oath) the orders of their lodge/masters even when they conflict with the public service councillors and council employees are responsible for.

Oh grow up.
First off, females are not Masons, it's a tradition thing.

They are not semi-secret. The induction maybe, but again, its just tradition If you ask nicely you'll be invited into the Lodge for a beer.

This is not The De Vinci Code. They are a charitable organisation not some Medieval sect.
