‘Commotion’ before hit-and-run near Bishopthorpe Road

POLICE have released more details of the hit-and-run crash that saw a cyclist suffer serious injuries and a 15-year-old arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

Police said there was “a commotion” near to the site of the incident on Friday.

A spokesman said: “Earlier in the evening at around 9.30pm to 10pm, there was a commotion in Anne Street just off Bishopthorpe Road involving a youth and a red car which was being revved very loudly.

“A number of people were present in the street at the time, including concerned residents who came out to see what was happening. The youth was eventually persuaded not to drive the vehicle by concerned members of the public.”

Later that night a youth was arrested on a number of charges, including suspected drink-driving, after a Seat collided with a cyclist and a parked van.

The cyclist has been transferred to Hull Royal Infirmary for specialist treatment, where he remains in a serious condition.
