Attack on French tourist in Cromer Street, Clifton

A FRENCH man was punched and kicked to the ground in a “nasty and unprovoked” attack in Clifton , say York police.
The 44-year-old man sustained a serious chest injury and cuts as he walked along Cromer Street shortly after 4am on Friday. Police say the attackers fled the scene shortly after.
PC Mark Proctor, of York police, said: “This was a nasty, unprovoked assault and I am appealing for anyone who can assist the investigation to contact us as soon as possible.”
The man, who is understood to be a regular visitor to York and was staying in the area, was taken to York Hospital .
Police say they have been conducting house-to-house inquiries in the area.
They are also appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything in the Cromer Street area of the city, in the early hours of Friday, to contact them.
Witnesses are asked to ring North Yorkshire Police on 101. Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
