A SCHOOLGIRL has raised £300 for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at York Hospital .

Freya Ellis, nine, a pupil at Archbishop of York ’s Junior School, raised the money by organising a charity raffle.

The raffle was drawn during a school assembly Freya asked local attractions and businesses as well as friends and family to donate prizes.

She said: “The people who bought the tickets are the reason I have raised more than £300.

“I am amazed I have raised so much money. Archbishop of York’s Junior School is the best school ever and head teacher Mr Green, my mum and Lucy, from the hospital, have helped me a lot. I really enjoyed organising the raffle.”

Sister Ann Elliot, of the unit, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to Freya for organising the raffle and to thank all those who generously gave her raffle prizes and bought the tickets.”
