Call for review of air ambulance tax

Call for review of air ambulance tax Call for review of air ambulance tax

York MP Hugh Bayley has called on a treasury minister to carry out a review into whether air ambulances should pay VAT on their fuel.

On July 11, a House of Commons motion calling for the review was passed, with cross-party support.

Mr Bayley then asked health minister Simon Burns if an ongoing Department of Health review of charities providing NHS services would include the VAT issue. The health minister said it was a matter for Monitor, the organisation carrying out the review, to decide what to include.

Following the reply, Mr Bayley has called on financial secretary to the Treasury Mark Hoban to carry out the review.

Mr Bayley said: “Now that the Health Minister has said he can’t give a commitment to considering VAT on air ambulance fuel payments as part of his review, I hope the Treasury will now confirm that it will carry out the required review required by the motion which the House of Commons passed a fortnight ago.”
