More Park&Ride buses for Mystery Plays

EXTRA Park&Ride services are to be laid on as the York Mystery Plays return to the city next month.

During the performances, which take place between August 2 and 27, additional buses will be provided at the Rawcliffe Bar Park&Ride site and will take passengers to directly outside Museum Gardens, where the events will be held.

An extra bus will take passengers from Museum Street to Rawcliffe Bar at 10.30pm and 10.45pm Tuesday to Sunday between August 2 and 26, and on Bank Holiday Monday, which falls on August 27, the York Mystery Plays’ final day.

An additional service will also run every Sunday between August 5 and 26 from Rawcliffe Bar at 6.40pm, and if any performances over-run, the buses will wait until they are cleared to depart by a steward.

Liz Wilson, York Theatre Royal’s chief executive, said: “We hope it will make it a lot easier for many people travelling to come and see what will be the biggest theatrical event in York for more than a decade.”

I hope they all have "Mystery Tour" on the front.

I dont think that I've quite heard enough about these mystery plays yet, Maybe another three months worth of daily pointless articles on it should just about do it. If the bloomin things are so popular why is the press constantly promoting them?

As a matter of interest, who's bearing the cost of running the extra service?

Well that's better than what happens if there's roadworks - before now the last bus of the day to the city centre has been 10 minutes late and the driver takes it out of service so he can get to the depot and sign off rather than taking fare paying passengers to their destination.
Shame there aren't more stewards watching over the buses... it might prevent buses running in trios such as on wednesday afternoon on the 6 where the buses were literally 10 seconds apart.
