CANOEISTS took to the water in York for one of the highlights of the city’s annual waterbound celebration.

The River Ouse was the setting for the canoe races which formed part of York’s Festival of the Rivers last weekend, and participants of all ages and abilities raced along three different courses.

The contests all started at the Millennium Bridge, which links Fulford and South Bank, and saw canoes travel to Skeldergate Bridge, the Scarborough Railway Bridge or Clifton Bridge and back.

Trophies and cups were awarded for 22 different categories, with the vessels including Canadian canoes and kayaks
