200 speak out on huge York housing plan

MORE than 200 householders in Fulford have signed a petition asking for greater consultation on York's biggest proposed housing development.

Persimmon and Hogg, the proposed developers of the Germany Beck scheme in the village, are attempting to renew and extend by 12 years their outline planning permission for the 700-home project, which was granted by City of York Council in 2007.

Coun Keith Aspden, the Liberal Democrat councillor for Fulford who collected the petition through a residents survey, said the development would affect the whole village and proper consultation with all residents was needed.

Andrew Bowes, managing director at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: "We remain committed to the development of the Germany Beck site and have sought to engage with the local community throughout the planning process in accordance with the council's own adopted statement of community involvement.”
