UPDATED 1.15pm: Supplies back on after power cut hits centre of York

ELECTRICITY supplies have been restored to hundreds of homes and businesses in the centre of York which were hit by a power cut this lunchtime

The problem was reported to Northern Powergrid just after midday and led to electricity supplies being lost in Stonegate, Swinegate, Back Swinegate, Low Petergate, Church Street and Market Street, among other streets.

A spokeswoman for the electricity company said 338 properties were originally affected, but full power was back on at about 1.10pm today. The cause of the fault is not yet known, with engineers having been working on fixing the problem.
