York development plan will take two more years

A NEW plan for the future development of York is expected to take at least two more years to complete.

City of York Council withdrew its Local Development Framework (LDF), an over-arching strategy for planning and development in the city, after a Government inspector raised concerns that it was not sound.

Under new planning policy the council is required to submit a local plan, which is a similar strategy, with more focus on neighbourhoods.

Neil Taylor, interim director for city and environmental services at City of York Council, told members of the York Economic Partnership that although they could take evidence from the LDF, mandatory public consultation times meant that the earliest they could resubmit a plan would be in two years.

Heaven help us. More money down the tubes and they wonder why we despair of anything that local government lays its hands on.
Just how much is this going to cost and what other, useful, projects could it be spent on. No-one will die as a result of not having this plan so JUST DON"T DO IT!

Seems clear enough.

Or the council could say "F*** that we've got more pressing priorities".

If it's going to take two years anyway it will be out of date as soon as it's produced so why not say we'll wait for a couple of years, see how we go without it and then if we really cannot live without it then do it then.

Surely, with the need to cut unnecessary expenditure this should be right up there with other wasteful extravaganzas?

So the Local Development Framework (LDF) much quoted and beloved of the pedalling one (Paul Hepworth) is a load of rubbish. Most of us had sussed that already. If they decide to do it again, let us pray this time they pay no attention to minority pressure groups and free up the city from congesting bus and cycle lanes.

"No attention to minority pressure groups".
I think you might be in a minority there

In years to come, people will laugh at the whole LDF concept. It will be right up there with leeches, the flat earth society and TVs that needed to warm up. Twenty year plan in an ever changing, unpredictable world? Haha - yeah....stop it, my aching sides.

Whether or not any of you agree with the LDF concept, every Local Authority has to create one, by Government decree (Planning and
Compulsory Purchase Act 2004)

Laws can be repealed, and the sooner this one is the better.

Why are you all so against the LDF, so you trust the council to decide how York is developed with no consultation of the people that live here? strikes me with a previous record like York city council we could do with a bit less political involvement and a bit more people involvement?? How can this be bad when they mess it up so badly time and time again?

But the people are involved - it's called having an election. What's the point of an election if you then have to consult on everything - just get on with it.

The scandal is the massive waster of money spent on the last one and now we all spend it again to keep officers in employment
Mr D Gault/Wood and all must be rubbing their hands together with glee as they are guaranteed employment for minimum of 2 years. I seem to recall a Mr Templeman some 12 years ago saying it would all be sorted in 2 years. Well he went years ago. Wooley has also gone and we are no further forward. Odds on their replacement going before its all sorted please?
Its a disgrace and a direct result of politicians interfering with the planning process culminating in the Community stadium fiasco

Planning is a long term thing, politicians are mostly not there long enough to think long term and have their own careers in mind as well. Its all too open to curruption in my view. The LDF was consulted on and would have been a fair unpolitical approach to planning the future of the city.

So, you think bad laws don't exist then? Poll Tax? No suffrage for women? Homosexuality being illegal? Hmm...think again, Paul.
