A “SECRET garden” has been opened in York.

The garden, at Clifton Children’s Centre, has been planned to encourage children and adults to take part in outdoor play.

It includes a den-making area, digging and sand area, balancing beams, outdoor shelter area, willow wigwam, weaving mesh, music area, bird feeding area and water play channels. Families can also get involved in growing fruit and vegetables in the garden.

City of York councillor Janet Looker , who opened the garden in Kingsway North, said: “The secret garden will be a fantastic addition to the city for children.

“Having an outdoor space where children can take part in a range of activities will offer up a unique learning experience.”

The garden is supported by York Get Growing Project and local businesses have donated towards the project.
