Police hunt York vital robbery witness

DETECTIVES investigating a robbery in York are appealing for a vital witness to come forward.

It is believed a man who came to the aid of a 17-year-old being robbed on The Stonebow may have vital information.

Between 1pm and 1.30pm last Friday, the victim was approached by a 16-year-old outside the job centre who allegedly grabbed him by the throat and forced him to hand over his mobile phone.

The 16-year-old was arrested and has been released on police bail as enquiries continue. Despite the arrest, officers are still appealing for witnesses, in particular the man who helped the victim.

Anyone who can help is asked to phone police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
