Man suffers burns after boxes catch fire at York shop

A MAN has suffered minor burns after cardboard boxes caught fire at the back of a York shop and the flames spread to scaffolding.

Fire crews from Acomb were called to the scene in Main Street, Upper Poppleton, just before 1.30pm today and discovered the 32-year-old man's hands had been burned.

He is believed to have been injured as he tried to put out the flames and was treated by paramedics after firefighters gave him first aid. The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.
