Good turn-out expected for York Florists’ summer show

ORGANISERS of the Ancient Society of York Florists’ summer show are expecting a good turn-out this weekend.

The society, which is the oldest horticultural group in the world, will be opening its doors to floral enthusiasts at Askham Bryan College tomorrow.

With 114 classes to be entered, secretary John Galvin said: “We’re hoping for a turn out of up to 300 people. We have lots of prizes and trophies to give out.”

The show will take place between 11am and 3pm, and will feature flowers, vegetables and handicrafts.

The society has held at least one annual show since its formation 244 years ago.

Everyone is welcome to attend the weekend’s event. More information on the society and the show can be found at www.ancientsocietyofflorists.co.uk
