Police presence in part of York is "exercise"

A LARGE number of police units were in part of York today.

About half a dozen police vehicles were close to the Waggon And Horses pub in Lawrence Street, including police dogs.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said this was not in connection with a specific incident.

He said: "The heavy police presence is expected in the Lawrence Street area throughout the day.

"This is merely a pre-planned procedural exercise, and members of the public have no need to be concerned."
