Bishy Road Street Party to be held today

LOCALS will gather in York this evening for the Bishy Road Street Party.

The event, from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, is billed as Independents Day, celebrating Bishopthorpe Road’s array of independent businesses.

Many shops will be open late; there will be live music and food available; and there will be a play area for children. The road will be closed to traffic between Nunnery Lane and Scarcroft Road.

Instead of moaning about it, why don't you come down and enjoy it?

The pavements will still be open, so bikes should be ok.

there's a very good alternative bike route which parallels Bishy Road. It's bollarded off to prevent use as a rat run by car users, but no problems for pedal power.....

There's no such thing as a rat run, just roads that car drivers can legally use unless specifically prohibited by law.

I used to do most of my shopping there when I lived just off Bishy Road. It was great then and it's great now.
I hope the street party was a success.

how come that they can get a main road closed for three hours.presumably a move by the likes of merritt and d agorne to stick one to the car drivers of york.look at all the little used side streets of bishy road down in the clementhorpe area.why not use those.

Some of y'all are real bitter miseries.

I went along, it was great. Good atmosphere, lots of people smiling and laughing. It was a party.

It was nothing to do with idiotic road politics or merrett or whoever the next hate figure is, it was just a party, it was about fun.

Lighten up you miserable beggars!

I always think it looks a nice road with a good mix of shops. I'm jealous of the people in the area! I noticed all the bunting but didn't see any notices at all about the road being closed and I drive along there every day. Presumably there were some?

We were there too and after a lot of deep consideration we came to the inescapable conclusion...

Brilliant, loved it! More please.
