York Beer and Cider Festival will be ‘bigger and better’

THIS year’s York Beer and Cider Festival will be the biggest and best yet, organisers say.

The event, to be held on Knavesmire in September, will run for four days instead of the three in previous years and will include more than 250 beers and 100 ciders from across the UK.

Several breweries are producing special beers exclusively for the event, including some to commemorate York800, the celebrations of the 800th anniversary of York being given its charter as a self-governing city.

Matthew Grant, chairman of the York branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra), which has organised the event, said: “We are very much looking forward to this year’s festival, especially with the added theme of York800. Our aim, as always, is to promote real ale and real cider and perry to local residents and visitors to the area.”

The festival runs from September 19 to 22.

I hope they've plenty of ale on, I'm going with my drinking pants on.

I AM.

Will they run out of beer on the first night like they did last year? Some beer festival if there's no beer to be had.

You obviously didn't go to the same festival as me. They didn't run out of beer on the first night at all - me and 8 mates visited and all the beers we wanted were on all night. They eventally ran out around 8pm on the Saturday.

I think there were a couple of particularly favoured barrels which were emptied early on, but there were many others to try.

Will look forward to it. I attended on the Thursday (opening day to the public) last year, and one or two of the most popular ales did sell out by 7pm, but as previously mentioned, there was plenty more to try !
