Inter-city role is found for York’s old ftr buses

THE fleet of ftr superbuses which was taken off the streets of York earlier this year is being redeployed to the route between Leeds and Bradford.

The controversial vehicles were introduced on York’s number 4 route between Acomb and the University in 2006, but were replaced by a fleet of double deckers following a comprehensive review of passenger growth prospects by First. A First spokesman said it was working in partnership with local authorities to establish the first phase of a rapid transit style service between Leeds and Bradford using the buses.

“First is currently refurbishing its fleet of vehicles for this service to include an interior refurbishment, including leather seating,” he said.

As long as they never come back to York I don't care where they go.

The roads are unquestionably more comfortable and safer without them. The difference is marked and very welcome.

Bye FTR, we don't miss you!

All we Want now is the rest of them gone from our narrow streets in town and then we'll be happy

That's not the same as FTR. The silver park and ride "bendy" buses are still around.

BRING BACK THE HOPPA'S THEY WERE BRILLIANT,
they took no room upon the roads they seated 12-16 people and 4 standing and they were forever full so you had to walk

This is old news. I stated about 3 months ago that the FTR's were going to be used on the 72 between Leeds and Bradford.

First are going down the old line of "we'll double the frequency but reduce actual capacity per vehicle, because people will wait for the next bus and not all try and cram into the one vehicle" for the 72, doing the exact opposite of what has happened in York.

Totally agree with the suggestion to re introduce the Hoppa buses. The Dolmus buses in Turkey are always full and provide an excellent service.
