PUPILS at The Mount School in York are staging a concert in aid of St Leonard’s Hospice.

The concert has been organised in recognition of the care provided by the hospice for a parent at the school who died last year.

Year 8 student Ruby Haswell, whose father, Duncan, passed away, said: “We wanted to raise some money for St Leonard’s because they looked after my father, and us, really well.

“We wanted to tell people about the caring service they provide, and to raise some money for them. They were just really, really nice at a time when it was so important.”

The students at the all-girls school are organising the event themselves, from ticketing to arranging the acts.

The 90-minute concert will include vocal performances by soloists, duets, the School Swing Band, and also dance pieces.

Normally, The Mount and The Mount Junior School fundraise for their chosen charities for an entire year and all proceeds are divided evenly between the charities. In the circumstances, a special exception was made for this concert.

The concert takes place on Tuesday, July 3, from 7pm, in The Mount’s School Hall. Tickets cost £2, with refreshments available and a charity cake stall.
