Homes flooded in Badger Hill, York
ABOUT eight homes in Yarburgh Way and Crossways in Badger Hill, York, have been flooded after torrential rain.
Fire bridage station manager James Bowes, said nine fire fighters were pumping out gardens to reduce the levels of floodwater inside peoples' properties.
Jeffery Clarke, 86, of Yarburgh Way, said his kitchen had been flooded by about an inch of water and his garage by a depth of about half a foot.
Carpets in his hall and living room were also sodden. He said he had lived in the property since 1963 and had not been flooded since it was twice inundated in the 1970s.
His son Colin blasted "idiots" who had driven through the flood waters in their cars, creating a bow wave that exacerbated the problems.
Next door neighbours Pauline and Gerald Haskins said flood waters were on the brink of coming into their home.
Mrs Haskins said: "The rain has been absolutely torrential. It was absolutely horrendous. I have never seen anything like it in my life."
