YOUNG musicians have triumphed in a national band competition.

St Andrew’s Church Lad and Church Girls Brigade in New Earswick won a host of awards in the National Band competition in Leicestershire.

Leader Liz Stubbs said: “We won the National Band competition of the Brigade – winning every trophy bar one which we came second in.”

The band, which has brass and woodwind sections, is one of the most respected in the country and its repertoire includes concert pieces, ranging from classical music to modern show-tunes.

The Church Lads and Church Girls Brigade is a uniformed Anglican youth organisation for young people aged between five and 21-years-old.
