Another tremendous performance saw Heworth ARLC Under-15s make it three consecutive wins when seeing off Dewsbury Moor 28-20.

In hot conditions, Heworth led 24-6 at half-time with tries from Ryan Martin, Joe Raddings, Daz Harris and Tom Leonard (2) giving Heworth a good cushion for playing into a strong wind in the second half.

They were in a position three times to score to add to their lead after the break but could not convert the chances, and Dewsbury got into the game, scoring three tries to reduce the deficit to 24-20 with ten minutes left.

Heworth thereafter defended well and got a crucial set of six starting on the half way line, in which a great kick by Jonny Rawsthorne bounced wickedly and the alert Tom Mannix pounced to score. Heworth played out the last five minutes plus seven minutes of injury time.

All 17 impressed, none more so than man-of-the-match Cameron Simpson.

Heworth U14s lost to league leaders Hunslet Warriors 16-14. Jack Smith scored early on and further first-half Heworth tries came from Harry Radcliffe, which he converted, and Jacob Sunderland.

The Villagers’ defence was outstanding, particularly from Milo Dawson and Charlie Hill, and Heworth maintained their domination in the second half only for risky off-loads to deny them further tries, with Hunslet scraping through to win.

New Earswick U12s drew 14-14 in a tough game in blazing heat at Keighley.

Keighley led 10-0 but Ewan Coverdale hit back and All Blacks came out fighting in the second half, only to be punished early on with another home try.

However, excellent defence and attack plays soon saw Brad Martin score out wide, Harvey Baynes converting, followed by a great scoot over from Josh Ireland.

Martin, Baynes, Adam Winter Rhodes and Ian Shutt were the men of the match.

Heworth U9s lost by a single try in a tremendous contest against Kippax.

Trailing early on, Heworth applied lots of pressure at the end of the half and were rewarded when Leon Mooring took a wide pass and evaded three defenders to score.

Duly lifted, Heworth came out stronger in the second half, Will Spencer leading the charge and Spencer Harris winning the man-of-the-match award for an outstanding tackling display, supported well by Jak Foster, Josh Atkin Stone and Callum Dunmore.

Callum Rutland scooted under tackles to equalise, while David Strange took the ‘magic moment’ for a last-ditch cover tackle – but it was in vain as Kippax nicked it in the dying minutes.
