Yorkshire MPs back Tour de France idea

A GROUP of MPs have launched a Westminster bid backing the campaign to bring the opening stages of the Tour de France to Yorkshire in four years’ time.

Detailed talks have already been held with the event’s organising committee about the possibility of Yorkshire hosting the Grand Depart – the first two days of the race, which are held in a new location every year – in 2016.

Leeds would be the starting destination, but the teams would then pass through the Yorkshire Dales before heading to York, Scarborough and the North York Moors, while parts of East Yorkshire could also be included in the route.

An Early Day Motion – which is a form of Parliamentary petition – has been tabled by MPs supporting Welcome to Yorkshire’s aim of bringing the Tour to Yorkshire.

I wonder if the French'd reciprocate by starting the Yorkshire Wolds Half Marathon on July 21st at Bishop Wilton Show half way down the Champs-Élysées?
