2012 York Food And Drink Festival programme launched

THE programme for the 2012 York Food And Drink Festival will be launched this weekend as part of the city’s Asparagus Festival.

For ten days, between Friday, September 21, and Sunday, September 30, the festival will feature 100 market stalls with the theme, ‘Feeding the City in the Past, the Present and the Future’.

The stalls will all feature a range of local products, including fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, chocolate, beer and wine. They will also explore the history of food and drink in the city.

Visitors can also take a tour around the Georgian kitchen of the Mansion House, look at our food back through the ages with Andrew “Bones” Jones, or see how chocolate made its way to York. There will also be a number of evening events, including a black tie dinner at the Mansion House and a tutored beer tasting with Jeff Evans from Inside Beer.

The festival will also look at virgin olive oil, by teaming up with the Food and Environment Agency, will also offer visitors an insight into just how safe today’s food really is.
