A CHARITABLE debt counselling service has recruited a new member to its team.
Pam Lawrence is to lead the Christians Against Poverty team, based at Burnholme Community College.
The York East branch is one of 200 across the UK which give face-to-face help to people made desperate and isolated through financial problems, more than a third of whom describe themselves as suicidal.
Ms Lawrence will visit people in their homes and after she has given advice and support, creditors will be contacted by CAP’s dedicated head office in Bradford, Yorkshire, which currently handles £73m of secondary debts. The client is given a carefully worked-out budget to ensure they can be debt free within around five years.
Ms Lawrence said: “The great thing about CAP’s free service is that it is available to everyone – regardless of age, gender, background or faith. So, if you know things are out of control and you’re stressed, missing meals or sleep, please give me a ring on 0800 328 0006.”
