WHILE there wasn’t a cloud in the sky over North Yorkshire yesterday, there was an aerial display team as the Red Arrows rehearsed their latest spectacle.
The seven jets took to the skies over RAF Church Fenton ahead of the start of their 2012 display season, which starts in Folkstone on June 2, and will include a flyover in London to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Following eight weeks of intensive training in Cyprus, the team was granted Public Display Authority from the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton.
Group Captain Dave Bentley, Commandant of the Central Flying School, who is in overall command of the Red Arrows, said: “2011 was an extremely challenging year for the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, both air and ground crew alike. The award of Public Display Authority is recognition of the entire team’s hard work and commitment.
“The 2012 display is an energetic mix of formation and precision flying, and I know how much the Red Arrows are looking forward to the forthcoming season and enhancing their reputation as one of the world’s premier aerobatic display teams.”
