Three boys rescued in North Sea drama
THREE boys have been rescued off the Yorkshire coast, after the dinghy they were in started being washed out to sea.
The coastguard rescued the boys, one of whom was aged only ten, from Bridlington’s South Bay at about 10am today, after they were alerted by the harbour master and a member of the public.
A spokeswoman for Humber Coastguard said: “There was an outgoing tide, everything was against them. They got into difficulty, and were struggling for a little while, then ran out of energy.
“One of the boys made it to shore himself, the other two were rescued by the Bridlington inshore lifeboat. The coastguard team were also in attendance.”
The spokeswoman said a rescue helicopter had also been scrambled after the alarm was raised, but turned back as the boys were rescued.
The incident was over by 10.55am.
