Pupils in the school’s singing club have won the Sing Up gold award after working together to write and record a school song which is now sung in assembly. Ms Newton said: “Singing is certainly taking centre stage at Heworth these days. We were absolutely delighted to receive the award and feel it has really brought the school together.

“We have made a real effort to share our singing with the local community. We went carol singing at Christmas and have made links with two residential care homes.

“Our singing club go to perform regularly for the residents who really look forward to our visits.”
