Businesses to demonstrate their green credentials

ORGANISATIONS, businesses and individuals around the world will celebrate World Environment Day on June 5.

World Environment Day, which was started by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 1972, has been celebrated around the world in many ways, including street rallies, bicycle parades, green concerts, essay and poster competitions in schools, tree planting, recycling efforts and clean-up campaigns in order to demonstrate the power of individual actions that collectively become a force for positive change.

Local organisations contributing to the efforts of World Environment Day can register their activity at unep.org/wed The Press will also celebrate the commitment of York businesses to the environment and to encourage more small businesses to do whatever they can, by publishing a practical guide on greening your business.

The supplement will provide small businesses with advice on going green, from renewable energy to waste management and sustainable transport, and will be published within The Press on June 5.
