POLICE hunting for a criminal on the run have arrested a man in York this morning.
Officers had appealed to members of the public to help trace Geoffrey Albert Hicks who has breached the terms of his release licence.
Hicks, of Hope Street in the Walmgate area of the city, is also wanted in connection with an assault in Bell Farm on May 6 this year.
Officers arrested the 34-year-old in the early hours of this morning in the Bell Farm area of the city and police have praised members of the public for coming forward with information leading to his arrest.
Hicks was released from prison on licence in January 2012 after being sentenced to three years and four months for burglary.
His licence has since been revoked for poor behaviour and as a result he has been recalled to prison.
Inspector Ian Dyer, of York CID, said: “I am very grateful to the media and the public in York for their assistance with this appeal.
“I would like to thank all the people who called in with information which eventually led to the arrest this morning.”
