Dog bit man's fingertip off in York

A DOG has bitten off a man’s fingertip on York’s Knavesmire, police have revealed.

North Yorkshire Police said the attack happened near the Middlethorpe Hall hotel at 11.30am last Friday.

A force spokesman said that 5 millimetres was bitten off the end of a 64-year-old man’s finger by a Labrador, but he was unable to say whether it had proved possible to re-attach the finger tip.

A spokeswoman for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said the man had been treated and then taken to York Hospital for further care.

The force spokesman said he understood the matter was now under investigation by dog wardens at City of York Council, but the authority was unable to comment today on the matter.
