Man hid in woods to have sex with 13-year-old

POLICE have revealed they arrested a West Midlands man living rough in the Pocklington area after discovering he had been having sex with a 13-year-old local girl.

A report to Humberside Police Authority praised an officer’s perseverance which had led to the arrest.

It followed a report of a suspicious person seen in a village. Officers initially discovered he was living rough in a wooded area but were unable to find him, and alerted other members of staff at Pocklington Police Station.

“Officers then managed to find the male and speak with him,” said the report. “He gave an account that he was coming to see a 17-year- old, which at first appeared quite plausible. However, due to the checks that one of the PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers) made, it was found that he had in fact been coming to the area since October 2011 to have sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old local girl.”

It said officers had gone to the area where the man had been camping and arrested him.

“At the time he was arrested, he had packed his belongings together and was ready to leave again. Following his arrest, the victim was spoken to and said she was pleased that he had been arrested and that she now felt safe.” A force spokeswoman was unable to say yesterday what had subsequently happened to the arrested man.

Elsewhere, the report said police had seized four mobile phones and drugs after a package was thrown over the wall of Everthorpe prison in East Yorkshire. A man was chased and eventually arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs.
