Bottle-feeding help for new mums at York Hospital

New mums who want to bottle-feed their babies can now get extra support from maternity staff at York Hospital.

A new infant-feeding room has opened on the unit where new parents are given specialist advice and guidance so they feel ready and confident to safely feed their baby on formula milk.

Morag White, infant feeding co-ordinator, said: “All women who come into the unit are given information regarding the health benefits of breast-feeding, however we do know that around a quarter of women choose to bottle-feed. It’s important that these parents are given the right information to enable them to feed their babies.”

About time too! When I had my daughter 3 years ago I wasn't shown anything. We were turfed out the next day without even being shown how to bath her. I had to ask my midwife what to do when she visited me at home 2 days later. Made me feel like because I didn't make the decision to breastfeed we were treated very differently!
