Flood plain idea to beat Pocklington flooding

A FLOOD plain has been suggested as a solution to flash flooding in Pocklington.

Heavy rain last month caused Pocklington Beck to overflow and caused problems around Market Street.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is now investigating the issue. The town’s mayor, Graham Perry, said he believed a flood plain could resolve the problem.

He said talks had been held “in generalised terms” with the council and the Environment Agency in the past.

“They are now talking in even more focused terms of this being the way to put in an extra safety valve to cope with the surges.

“The field for the flood plain would need to be on the Millington side of Pocklington and clearly the people who own the land at present will need to be approached.”
