THE chief executive of Mansfield Town was arrested outside last night's play-off clash with York City.

Carolyn Still, 29, the youngest woman to become the top boss of an English football club, was arrested in Grosvenor Terrace, following an altercation with police.

She was arrested for using threatening words and behaviour after an incident outside the ground after the Blue Square Bet Premier Play-Off semi-final first leg at Bootham Crescent.

Still, who is due to marry Mansfield chairman John Radford, 45, later this year, reportedly became “distressed” after the visitors' striker Matt Green was sent off during the game and left the ground midway through the second-half of the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Sophie Hicks, York City's communications and community director, told The Press: “Carolyn Still did seem to become quite distressed in the second half of the game.

“I can confirm she did leave the match early and I understand there was an incident involving the police outside the ground.”

Mr Radford has released a statement defending his fiancé, claiming she was defending one of the players.

He said: “Our dedicated and hard working CEO was involved in an incident in York when she went to the aid of one of our first team players who was being ushered out of the stadium by a number of police officers.

“Disappointed by how our player was being treated she was reprimanded for a verbal retort to a police officer. This incident has been blown totally out of proportion over a light hearted, hot headed quip in defence of our player.

“I commend the police for their common sense in dealing with the matter quickly and no charges have been made against our CEO."

Miss Still was handed the top role at the Blue Square Bet Premier side last September.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “A 29-year-old woman from Retford was arrested at 9pm on Wednesday on Grosvenor Terrace, in York, for using threatening words and behaviour. She was given an adult caution before being released.”
