Professor Brian Cantor to step down as University of York vice chancellor

PROFESSOR Brian Cantor is to step down as Vice-Chancellor of the University of York at the end of next year after a decade in the job.

The search for a successor will be launched shortly by chair of council Sir Christopher O’Donnell, who said Prof Cantor had been an ‘outstanding’ Vice Chancellor over the past ten years, when he had led the expansion of Heslington East.

York council leader James Alexander said he had been a ‘great guy’, who had made a great contribution to the university and city.

Prof Cantor said it had been an ‘enormous privilege’ to lead one of the world’s best universities.
