Man in court over arson attack at flat

A MAN has appeared before court in connection with an arson attack on a York flat.

Steven Douglas McShane, of Lydham Court, Foxwood, York, appeared before York Crown Court yesterday charged with arson with intention to endanger life, and a burglary charge following an incident in Thoresby Road, in Acomb, last month.

McShane, in a striped shirt, spoke only to confirm his personal details when he appeared before court. He did not enter a plea to either charge.

The 39-year-old, who was granted conditional bail, will next appear before York Crown Court on July 30.

North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue launched a joint investigation into the blaze which broke out on Monday, April 2.

A man covered in soot was seen running away from the flat shortly before 4pm as fire-fighters were called to tackle the flames.
