TARANTULAS, cobras and an armadillo were among the stars of an animal encounter day at Askham Bryan College.
The event on Saturday aimed to showcase the creatures, facilities and courses at the college, and featured opportunities to handle various reptiles and mammals along with dog grooming and animal health check demonstrations.
Animals on show ranged from newborn goslings and three-week-old meerkats to a three-year-old kune kune pig called Doris, who weighed in at more than 100kg.
Rob Wilson, an instructor keeper at the college, was among the team of staff and students on hand to answer questions from visitors, and said he was pleased with the turnout in spite of the damp weather.
The armadillo and meerkats tend to be the most popular, along with the chicks and ducklings,” he said.
