UPDATE - 11am, Friday: Miss North has now been found safe and well, say police.

POLICE are appealing for help in tracing a York woman who has gone missing.

Georgina North, 24, of Oakville Street, has not been seen since noon on Wednesday, when she was seen in a local shop in Huntington Road, said a spokesman for North Yorkshire Police.

“Police are concerned for Georgina’s welfare, as her behaviour is out of character and she is considered to be vulnerable,” he said.

“Georgina is white, approximately 5ft 6in tall, with a medium build and red, shoulder-length hair. When she was last seen, she was wearing a red coat.”

He said that although it was not known where Georgina had gone, it was believed that she might be in Leeds.

PC Charlotte Gregory, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, issued a direct appeal to the missing woman.

She said: “Georgina, if you see or hear this appeal, please get in touch with your family.

“They are very worried about you and want to know that you are safe and well. If you would prefer, you can contact the police in confidence.”

She said she was also appealing to anyone who might be able to help locate where Georgina had been since she was last seen to contact the police straight away.

Anyone who can assist with the search for Georgina North is asked to phone North Yorkshire Police on 101, press option one, and pass the information to the Force Control Room, for the attention of Charlotte Bloxham.

The spokesman said that Georgina had lost a lot of weight since this photo of her, which has been issued to the media by police, was taken.
