ANIMAL carcasses were strewn across the A1 in North Yorkshire today after two lorries collided.
The accident happened between Junctions 47 and 48, near Dishforth, at about 11.50am.
One of the lorries was carrying 15 tonnes of animal carcasses, and police say about half the load spilled across the road.
The road remains closed and Highways Agency and Environment Agency staaff are on the scene. Police say a local waterway may have become partly contaminated.
There are lengthy delays on the A1, A19 and other A-roads around York.
