McFly wows York Barbican crowd
9:46am Wednesday 18th April 2012 in News
CHART-TOPPING boy band McFly were greeted by crowds of screaming fans when they played a sold-out performance at York Barbican last night.
For the first of their two visits to York in 2012, Dougie Poynter, Tom Fletcher, Harry Judd and Danny Jones pleased fans with an upbeat performance on their Up Close And Personal Tour, including many of the band’s big hits.
Formed in 2004, McFly have clocked up 18 consecutive top 20 singles, seven of which reached number one in the UK singles chart. They have also won a Brit Award for best pop act.
This summer, McFly will return to the city for the Music Showcase Weekend at York Racecourse, when they will take to the stage after the last race of the Sky Bet York Stakes meeting on Saturday, July 28.
As many as 40,000 people are expected to flock to the Knavesmire course that afternoon.

Wanted to see Jethro Tull a few months back, and Blackmore's Night. Both sold out fast, both around £50 a time.

What's a real shame is that tickets to see any decent band at either Barbican or the GOH are extortionate.

The headline should be, 'Yorks' Pauper Kings & McFly wows York Barbican crowd.' Any guesses that the Editor is from down south and he doesn't get it that Local people want to see Local stuff and are proud of Local stuff. You would have sold more papers today. Get back down south and get an Editor who really cares and thinks LOCAL.

The gig was a MCFLY gig therefore the review deserves to be focoused on them because whoever got sent into review would have been told to review MCFLY :-)
York Press did it again. They forgot to mention LOCAL band 'The Pauper Kings', and you wonder why your paper is not selling as it should.

twigger wrote:Actually one of Mcfly's first theatre tour gigs, inbetween making albums then doing arena tours, was actually called "Up Close and Personal" then they did a tour called "Un Close And This Time It's Personal" So Get your facts right as that tour name doesn't belong to anyone but Mcfly as they cam up the Original name :-)
Oh, and Mr Editor tell your reporter that the tour is in fact called 'KEEP CALM AND PLAY LOUDER TOUR' and not 'Up Close And Personal Tour' as mentioned. I think you will find that that tour name belongs to 'The Osmonds' who were here on Sat 7th April.

A non-decent band would be to scared to tell everyone to tell security to F**k Off when they don't let the thousands of screaming fans stand like at Newcastle!!! But not Mcfly...They say what they think and the fans do as the told resulting in security being defeated!!!!! So get your god **** facts right!!! :-) 17 (Soon to be 18) year olds can argue like it's going out of fashion!!!
